PM Surya Ghar in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh: a step-by-step guide

Solar panels on a tiled villa roof

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is the Government of India scheme that pays part of the cost of rooftop solar for homes. In Telangana and Andhra Pradesh it runs through your electricity distribution company (DISCOM): TGSPDCL or TGNPDCL in Telangana, and APSPDCL, APEPDCL or APCPDCL in Andhra Pradesh.

How much subsidy you get

System size Subsidy
1 kW ₹30,000
2 kW ₹60,000
3 kW and above ₹78,000 (maximum)

The subsidy is paid by the government directly into your bank account. It is not paid to your installer.

Who is eligible

  • A domestic electricity connection
  • A roof you own or have permission to use, with shade-free space
  • No earlier central subsidy for rooftop solar on the same connection
  • Made-in-India (DCR) solar panels from a registered vendor

The steps

  1. Register on the national portal, pmsuryaghar.gov.in, with your electricity connection details.
  2. Your DISCOM gives feasibility approval. In Andhra Pradesh the feasibility study is waived for systems up to 10 kW.
  3. You choose a registered vendor, sign the agreement and the system is installed.
  4. The vendor uploads the installation details. The DISCOM inspects the system and fits a net meter.
  5. After commissioning, the subsidy is released to your bank account.

Documents to keep ready

  • Latest electricity bill
  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank passbook or cancelled cheque

Lumisun handles the portal, DISCOM and net-meter paperwork for you and follows up until the subsidy is credited.
